This Christmas McDonald’s promises their customers real augmented reality marketing magic. Emily Somers, vice president of McDonald’s UK, told that they wanted to thank all their customers for support and launched the “biggest ever celebration” with Amazon service and AR app Blippar.
The campaign centers on a TV ad with wooden vintage doll Juliette that looks out of the window of the toy shop at McDonald’s visitors. Juliette continues the theme on other McDonald’s merch, such as packaging and coffee cups. McDonald’s and Amazon wanted to give their customers a little extra off-screen. And here comes Blippar with their app for an advent calendar. Every tray mat in café includes augmented reality marketing calendar and each day a new window will open with free games or apps to download or a chance to win an Amazon gift card. Leo Burnett wanted to create something exciting, something people would easily interact with, so they took a tray mat which every customer gets with an order. With millions of visitors per day, McDonald’s will help Blippar to popularize the augmented reality technology.
